The last time an original Jaguar XKSS came up for sale was in 2005, so this makes this quite an event in the car collector world. Yes Jaguar will sell you one from their SVO department for around $1.5 Million, but this car is one of the original 16 built before the devastating fire on 12th February 1957 that brought the end to these cars being produced.

The Jaguar XKSS is so special as it is the road going version of the Jaguar D-Type, one of Jaguar's most successful competition cars of its time. With figures that still stand up in today's motoring world, a 3.4 litre straight six engine powered the car to 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds and had a top speed of 149 mph, it was a blisteringly quick car back then.
Jaguar were also only planning to build 25 of these cars, making it rare then, let alone now after the all these years. The cars profile was only enhanced further with super cool owners such as Steve McQueen.

This example is unusual in that it has a racing provenance to match its legendary collectors status. Raced by its first two owners until it was retired in 1961, since then it has been restored to a very high concours standard exhibiting at Pebble Beach in 2010 and Concorso d'Eleganza, Italy in 2011. You can read about this examples history in full in the auction listing safe in the knowledge that bidding is going to be hectic around this car.
