Wiltshire Jaguar Enthusiast Of The Year

Despite the lack of events, etc, throughout the year, due to the Covid restrictions, the winner of our annual Wiltshire Jaguar Enthusiast Of The Year was a “no brainer”, as they say.

With a unanimous decision by the committee (not involving the actual winner) this year’s award goes to Su Freeman, our Vice Chairman, for her splendid work in keeping our region communicating via the monthly Zoom meetings.

Many congratulations, and thanks from all of us, go to Su for her hard work and enthusiasm.

Wiltshire Region AGM, Thursday, 11 March.

Like so many other activities, due to the coronavirus lockdown, our Annual General Meeting this year will be a little different.

It will be held, as usual, in conjunction with our March meeting, but with the added opportunity for members, who can’t take part in the virtual meeting, to express their opinion via a postal or e-mail vote.

The Agenda for the meeting is attached with this newsletter for members.

If you have any nominations for Committee - other than those already listed – or any matters to be discussed under Any Other Business, please let me have details by 31 January LATEST so that they can be included in the AGM documents.

Full details and information will be sent out, via e-mail or post, in early February, to all members of the Wiltshire Region paid up to the end of 2020.

Membership Subscriptions Are Now Due

The bad news is that it’s the time of year when Membership subscriptions become due. The good news is that it is still only a fiver – less than a gallon of petrol, as I always point out. Cash or cheques to me at 17 Lake View, Calne, Wilts, SN11 8JA please.

This request does NOT apply to any new members who have joined our region since the beginning of October, and are automatically paid up until end 2021, or anyone who has already paid, in advance, for this coming year.

Those affected by this have been contacted individually.

January Virtual Meeting

As usual, Su Freeman, our Vice Chairman, summarised this meeting for us.

The meeting opened with the usual greetings and pleasantries. Sue Wilthew then passed comment on a picture she could see behind Andrew and his explanation gave an amazing insight into a (Great Uncle?) family member’s involvement with flying Lancasters during WWII when he was in the very brave position of being a Pathfinder.

It was lovely to have Andy Ffolkes join in the meeting (he supports our region’s newsletter) and who has the added benefit of being a Leather Specialist and over the years has worked on several vehicles. His conversation led onto his current Jaguar, a 1968 Mk2 340 in its original condition, for which he has won prizes.

We then had another round robin chat about the Covid situation and the travelling limitations and how we were all doing.

In respect of future ‘Zoom’ meetings, we all expressed our enjoyment at the talk Peter Freelove had organised last month. It was agreed that joining in on future talks would be very much welcomed and Peter offered to supply further information in respect of such events.

We closed the meeting after about 1½ hours. It had been a light-hearted and shorter version than usual which, for the usual gossips that we are, we must have been tired after all our lively activities (in our dreams).

February Virtual Meeting

Details of this meeting are still to be finalised. The suggestion of having a speaker, made at the January meeting, is being followed up and details will be circulated in due course.

Coming Events

Calne Rotary Classic Car Run, Sunday, 23 May

Covid regulations permitting, the Calne Rotary is organising its annual Classic Car Run on Sunday, 23 May. This covers approximately 70 miles of Wiltshire countryside, starting from Calne Leisure Centre and finishing in Pewsey.

Entries are £26 per car and lunch is available for £8.50 if pre-booked. Entry forms and more information is available from Don Westcott if you are interested.

Lions On The Green, Devizes, Sunday, 13 June

All of you should have received information– either by e-mail or enclosed with this newsletter - re this event being organised by the Devizes Lions. Entry forms should be returned to Don Westcott at 17 Lake View, Calne, SN11 8JA and, as this is a charity fund raising event, entry fees will be paid by the region. It is dependent, of course, on the Covid restrictions being relaxed by this date.

At the moment, entries are being restricted, due to space limitations, to owners of pre-1970 cars. However, if entry numbers don’t reach expectations, this restriction may be relaxed, nearer to the date of the event, to include more modern vehicles. I’ll keep you informed.

Next Meeting

As you will be aware, all regional monthly meetings have been cancelled until further notice due to the coronavirus restrictions, but why not join us for next our Virtual Meeting in for February.
