Future Shows

Subject to any changes in the government regulations regarding Covid several organisations are starting to list events, as listed above, for the coming summer season. As yet, the JEC has not updated its guide for attendance at these shows but it’s worth putting the dates in your diary and applying for tickets. If we can’t attend as Wilts Region JEC then you can still attend as an individual and there will be an area reserved for Jaguars to park together.

Drive It Day, Sunday, 25 April.

Due to the Covid restrictions, we are not able to hold our usual Drive It Day lunch and drive out this year. However, you can still help the NSPCC charity, which is supporting the event and raising funds by selling Drive It Day plaques to attach to your car and help raise awareness of the historic car movement at this time. These plaques, which cost £10 each, can be ordered from www.driveitday.co.uk.

Ethanol Update

Following my note on ethanol free petrol, the FBHVC (Federation of British Historic Vehicles Clubs) has now issued an update on the introduction of E10 which will become the standard 95 octane petrol from 1 September 2021.

It is recommended that all vehicles produced before 2000 are considered incompatible with E10 and that drivers should use the new Super E5 Protection grade, where the ethanol content is limited to a maximum of 5%, which will be available at most large filling stations.

The higher octane 97+ Super grades will stay at E5 to provide protection for older vehicles.

More details of these changes can be found on page 14 of the News section in the April edition of Jaguar Enthusiast or on the FBHVC website www.fbhvc.co.uk. There is also an on-line compatibility checker for your car on www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-e10-petrol.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance Donation

In response to our donation to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance, agreed at our recent regional AGM, I have received a letter from their Director of Finance thanking us for our support. The service exists solely on charitable donations and it costs over £10,000 per day to keep the air ambulance flying.

Membership Subscriptions Are Now Due

Membership renewals are steadily coming in but there are still some of you reluctant to part with your fiver – less than a gallon of petrol, as I always point out. Cash or cheques, payable to Wiltshire Region Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club, to me at 17 Lake View, Calne, Wilts, SN11 8JA please.

This request does NOT apply to any new members who have joined our region since the beginning of October 2020, and are automatically paid up until end 2021, or anyone who has already paid, in advance, for this coming year.

Club Regalia

Printed products are available from Paul and Beverlee Clarke, two of our club members. They can put almost any design onto clothing, mugs, key rings, and many other items.

Beverlee can be contacted on 07545 451014 or e-mail [email protected].

Galileo Clothing, who are now based on Hopton Park Ind. Estate, Devizes, hold the embroidery software for our logo and they offer a range of clothing. For more information, have a look at their website on www.galileoclothing.co.uk or phone 01380 724442 and ask for Tim.

Coming Events

Calne Rotary Classic Car Run, Sunday, 23 May

Covid regulations permitting, the Chippenham/Calne Rotary Club is organising its annual Classic Car Run on Sunday, 23 May. This event, for vehicles aged 25 years and older, covers approximately 70 miles of Wiltshire countryside, starting from Calne Leisure Centre and finishing in Pewsey.

Entries are £26 per car and lunch is available for £8.50, if pre-booked. Entry forms and more information is available from https://chippenhamrotaryclub.org or Don Westcott, if you don’t have access to the internet.

Lions On The Green, Devizes, Sunday, 13 June

All of you should have received information– either by e-mail or post - re this event being organised by the Devizes Lions. Entry forms should be returned to Don Westcott at 17 Lake View, Calne, SN11 8JA and, as this is a charity fund raising event, entry fees will be paid by the region. It is dependent, of course, on the Covid restrictions being relaxed by this date.

At the moment, entries are being restricted, due to space limitations, to owners of pre-1970 cars. However, if entry numbers don’t reach expectations, this restriction may be relaxed, nearer to the date of the event, to include more modern vehicles. I’ll keep you informed.

Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum, Saturday/Sunday, 10/11 July

Subject to any changes in the Covid restrictions, the Directors of the Museum are optimistic that they will be able to hold their annual Classic Car Show this year. As usual, this will be a two-day event. On Saturday afternoon, starting at 4pm, there will be a road run, lasting about two hours, finishing back at the Museum for a Bar-B-Q.

Sunday will be the normal static display, with a reserved area for our club, plus a collection of autojumble, tombola and trade stands. In addition, there will be a food stall, beer tent and the usual afternoon’s entertainment. More details, entry forms, etc will be available shortly on the museum website.

If any of you are interested, but don’t have internet access, let me know and I will download a ticket for you. As always, in addition to the above, let me know, via your Diary Dates form, if you are coming to this show so that I can reserve enough space for us all to park together.

Shalbourne Car Show, Sunday, 29 August.

Due to the need to comply with the Covid restrictions, this annual event will be limited to 150 entrants, so, if you are interested, get your application in quick. Be aware, only pre-registered cars will be allowed in on the day.

For the moment, entries are on an individual basis as the JEC is not supporting events. However, there will be a reserved area for Jaguars to park together at the show. Information and entry forms are available from [email protected] but, if you don’t have internet and wish to take part, let me know and I’ll send you a form. In addition, don’t forget to tick the relevant box on the Diary Dates form.

Gates open to exhibitors at 9am with coffee and bacon butties available from 10.00am. The show finishes at 4pm.

Shalbourne is three miles south of Hungerford just off of the A338 and, as last year, the show is based at the Shalbourne Sports Field on Rivar Road where the views over the open countryside provides a perfect setting for the event.

White Horse Classic & Vintage Vehicle Show, Sunday, 5 September.

A new show for us. This is the third year that the Westbury and Trowbridge Lions have organised this charity event. It is held at the White Horse Country Park, located off of the A350 to the North East of Westbury, on the left just before the railway bridge, when coming from the north. Sat Nav: BA13 4LX.

Entry for Exhibitors is free and forms are available from https://whitehorsevehicleshow.org. There will be an area reserved for Wiltshire Region JEC but let me know, via Diary Dates, if you are coming so that sufficient space can be booked. If you don’t have access to internet and want to come, let me know.

Next Meeting

As you will be aware, all regional monthly meetings have been cancelled until further notice due to the coronavirus restrictions, but why not join us for next our Virtual Meeting on Thursday, 13 May.
