JEC South Lincs. - November 2020 Club Meeting by ZOOM

November saw sixteen members watch a most enjoyable Zoom presentation by James Walshe, Deputy Editor of ‘Practical Classics’ magazine.

James outlined his career in broadcasting and journalism, before fondly recalling a project to restore his Citroen DS, a car that James bought with money originally saved as the deposit for his house! James described the impressive restoration skills and spraying prowess brought to that project by his friend, our late treasurer, John Griffiths. Having later sold the DS to fund the eventual purchase of his home, James was delighted to discover another Citroen in need of renovation, especially as it was a model that had captivated him since childhood, the CX GTi Turbo. Being passionate about classics himself, James clearly relishes meeting other enthusiasts and hearing about their cherished cars. He showed us photographs of two stunning amateur restorations, an outstanding E Type, built from boxes of parts by a plumber, and an equally magnificent XK 120, restored by a boatbuilder. James also talked about the late Donald Campbell’s XK150 and E Type, again showing us some beautiful photographs. What shone through his presentation was that, for James, his motoring passion is as much about people as about cars, a sentiment with which South Lincolnshire JEC heartily concurs.

Members are reminded to check their emails for relevant documents prior to our Annual General Meeting, which will take place via Zoom, on 9th February.
