I have quite a few things to include so it might be a bit longer email than normal!
First the sad news. Many of you over the last couple of years have been asking about Peter and Trisha Twyford, and I have been looking back in my records, and the last time we saw them was at Biggin Hall for lunch in August 2019, when they were both on good form. In the last few days I have received an email from Mark Twyford, their son, to advise that Trisha passed away in February this year after a battle with Dementia. She had mentioned to one or two members back in 2019 that she had been diagnosed with the disease, which was a surprise to her and Peter, but clearly the onset was very quick and sadly she is no longer with us. Peter is finding things difficult, firstly with the loss of Trisha, but also his eyesight is deteriorating, and he can no longer drive, which is adding to the problems. Mark is planning to ring me this week, as I have offered to go and see him together with Geoff, and also Mark may try to bring him to the next meeting, but he gets tired quickly, so it may only be for an hour or so, but I will advise more after we have spoken. They were both long term supporters of the Derbyshire Group and his cars were a credit to his ability in that department and I know many of you will be sorry to hear this news. We all know he could be a bit cantankerous at times, but I and many other got on with him well and gave as good as we got, and Trisha was a lovely lady and will be missed by us all.
Okay on to the good news now!
Next Sunday 3rd July is the Derby Car Show at Markeaton Park starting at 10am and the organisers have been a bit thin on the ground with information this year and we have had no pre-show meetings. However, I have been in contact with Mick Emerson and Lee Perry who run the event and the plan is for anyone going and showing their car to be there for 9.15/9.30 and you will be directed to a Jaguar Region parking area. The North Staffs Region have been in contact with me, and they are expecting 6 or 7 cars to come along so I have asked Mick/Lee to allocate us space for up to 15 cars which I think will be enough, but there is plenty of space at Markeaton so it shouldn’t be a problem. I shan’t be there as we are going away on holiday first thing on Monday, but I believe a few of you are planning to go. I have the “whip flag” if anyone wants to take it along and North Staffs have the same, so look out for them so we can all join up. I also have the gazebo here and if anyone is going in a saloon car then I can try to arrange a transfer some time this week if you want to use it.
The next item related to the Summer Festival at Newby Hall and Gardens on Sunday 14th August. This is a one-day event, and you need to pre book if you plan to go as you cannot just turn up on the day and pay to get in. Please note this is very important.
A few of us have booked Nidd Hall for 3 nights from Friday 12th to Monday 15th and Geoff Fox is trying to organize us to sit together for dinner in the evenings but needs to know who is going so can you please advise me ASAP if you are booked for the 3 nights so I can co ordinate this with Geoff. I am meeting him on Wednesday this week, so will you please let me know in the next 48 hours your plans so we can pull this together.
Yesterday evening (Saturday 25th) was the Pipes in the Peaks Summer BBQ, and as usual it was a brilliant evening. We had 41 attend and I believe everyone enjoyed themselves. The food from Nigel’s Butchers in Ashbourne was excellent and Christian’s playing on the Compton Organ was I think the best I have heard, and he certainly makes the place come alive. They are running three “Christmas Spectaculars” in December, and it has been suggested a few of us might like to go along. The date we are looking at is Sunday 4th December, starting at 2.30pm and the cost is £15 per head, including sherry and mince pies!! I have provisionally reserved 20 tickets, so if you want to go will you let me know as soon as you can, as they are popular events and tickets sell out very quickly.
Our next monthly meeting is Tuesday 12th July at the Robin Hood. We have nothing specific planned at the moment although this may change after our meeting on Wednesday, and I will email a reminder a week or so before the event anyway. Also, if there is anything you want us to try to organize for August/September then let me or one of the committee members know as it’s your club and all suggestions are gratefully received, honestly!!
I think that’s all I need to tell you at the moment, and will you please respond to the above questions ASAP, if it applies to you.
Many thanks and best regards
Roger
Meanwhile, Nigel and Hartley went to The Festival of Speed at Goodwood on Saturday 24th June (a great event, if you haven't been before then put it on your 'must do' list). Some photo's below. We also called in at Bealieu on the way back on Sunday as they had a 'Simply Jaguar' event. Terrific Jaguar turnout, 250+ Jaguars maybe?
