An Incredible 85 Members joined the JEC Oxfordshire Talk "The XK8 - the car, its development, its vital importance to Jaguar's future and the joys of ownership - by an insider and lover of the model", by Peter Leake on Thursday 19th November

As part of the Club's efforts to provide an on-going service and benefit to its Members, the JEC Oxfordshire Region opened up its talk by Peter Leake "The XK8 - the car, its development, its vital importance to Jaguar's future and the joys of ownership - by an insider and lover of the model". Delivered over zoom, some 85 members from right around Europe joined in and went away extremely satisfied.

The XK8 is, of course, 25 years old in 2021, so is set to be a featrured model in the JDC / JEC Festival in May 2021, alongside the [email protected] and anniversaries of the Mark X and the X-Type. Peter is set to be there....

A Very Special Evening

This was always going to be a talk that Jaguar lovers, and lovers of the XK8 / X100 in particular, wouldn't want to miss. And so it proved with some 85 members booked in. Full of stories, images, video & anecdote , from the expert that knows first hand, it went down a storm with all those viewers relaxed at home.

Our speaker, Peter Leake, spent a total of 38 years with Jaguar, right from it's Jaguar Rover Triumph days up until retirement from JLR in 2012 and he still shows the depth of his enthusiasm for the cats.

He undertook a variety of sales training and presenting roles, ultimately as the Lead for XK8 Sales Training Worldwide, giving the members a real 'behind the scenes' briefing.

A working colleague and friend of Geoff Lawson, who was the Design Lead for the XK8, Peter fell in "total love" with the model and put many, many miles on examples of them as part of Jaguar's Model Feedback Programme. So strong is that love that Peter bought a restored, Sapphire Blue, model as his daily driver - as shown above outside Wappenbury Hall - so he's very familiar with the many ups and downs of ownership too.

It Was Enjoyed by Members All Across Europe

85 is usually the sort of attendance only experienced by members attending a talk by one of the Club's major sponsors. But members joined from at least 14 regions (Oxfordshire, Surrey & Hants, Berks & Thames Valley, Essex, London NW & W, West Sussex, Bucks & Herts, South Yorkshire, Yorkshire Ridings, Somerset, Dorset, Devon, Derbyshire, Swindon, North Wales, South Wales and Cheshire) plus Spain and Holland.

All went away very happy and enthused sabout the XK8 being celebrated at the Festival next year.

Incredible, Informative and Entertaining Content

Peter's, deliberately non-technical, talk addressed "The XK8 - the car, its development, its vital importance to Jaguar's future when under Ford ownership - by an insider and lover of the model".

Using a great mix of his words, his slide deck, video and stills told a persuasive story that confirmed the title. Members were left amazed by the realities of car design and construction, the challenges (and ultimately benefits) of dealing with a foreign owner (Ford) and how delivering the XK8 so successfully arguably delivered any future whatsoever to Jaguar, but one that enabled the marque to be where it is today.

Truly inspirational !!
