A very interesting read this afternoon. Cor! that 5 litre engine is a bit OTT isn't it? I did not realise that as well as the usual VVTs it has two sets of inlet cams and can switch between them for best economy/power. The repair man will love that!
Yes, the five litre is a huge advancement on the 4.2. Another generation advancement. Not the sort of engine to have in bits without good cause. The 4.0 and 4.2 are daunting enough.
There is one particularly good illustration in the document. It shows the 4.2 with all sensor locations shown. Very useful indeed especially as the paper also gives operating functions and electrical/electronic perimeters.
The diagram of the M112 function is schematic and a little confusing in paper format. Equated to the "cowhorn" manifold, the drawing becomes easier to understand.
I`d say this document is probably the most important we have yet seen for the 4.2. It answers so many questions.
