Locking wheel nut

Postby bobsherwin » Thu Aug 30, 2018 12:31 pm

I have mislaid (lost) the removal socket for my 2006 XK locking wheel nuts! I have no idea of the code for the socket and am loath taking the car on a longish run. Anyone have an idea where I can get a replacement socket?

No easy answers I fear. The identifier for the special socket may be listed in the documentation that came with the car. When I bought mine, it came in a printout of all the as-built details. With the right identifier, you might get one on ebay. Cost is about £20 usually.

Jaguar only sell complete sets of four nuts and a socket. Costly, I believe! I assume you could still specify so that the new socket fits your existing nuts as well as the new ones.

Another solution is to hammer a suitably sized socket onto the wheel nuts and get them off that crude way, then replace the lot with either new Jaguar ones ar a set from ebay. Only slightly less crudely is to purchase a special socket designed to remove locking wheel nuts that have lost their proper socket. Again, ebay is your friend!

Another alternative would be to attend either a regional meeting or JEC event and ask other members to try their locking nuts on your car. Jaguar models of the same era all used the same range of wheel lock keys (usually no more than 20 different versions) so, if you noted down the code of each key as you tried it, it shouldn't take long to track down the correct one for your car.
