Front seat movement

Postby peterxk8 » Fri Aug 24, 2018 12:12 pm

The back of my seats on my 2006 convertible XK 4.2 do not fold forward properly. Although using the switches they will recline backwards they will not come upright even as far as vertical. Both seats are the same. Is this just a question of getting the modules reprogrammed or is there another solution please?

Could you give a little more information about the problem? The seat backs should fold forwards manually (by releasing the seat catch). The electric operation is designed only to recline the seat backs from nearly vertical backwards, not to fold them forward beyond the nearly vertical position. Mike.

Hi Mike
Thanks for your reply.
The problem is that the electric operation will not bring the seats to anywhere near vertical. I have had a look at the seats in cars belonging to other club members and the electrics certainly bring the seats backs much further over (forward) than they are currently doing on my car. I don't have too much of a problem with the seat reclined back a bit but it is not comfortable for my wife particularly if she is driving.(Her arms are shorter than mine but stretching her arms seems a bit drastic !!!)
Any ideas?
Regards
Peter

Several of the car's modules are programmable to a limited degree to suit customer demands. Annoyingly, Jaguar doesn't readily list all the available options in the workshop manual information. Personally, I have never heard that the seat modules have any such options for adjusting the range of backrest angles. Again, should there be this option, it also seems slightly unusual, though not impossible, that both seats in your car needed to be modified away from standard to suit a previous owner's requirements. If you have contacts with a friendly Jaguar specialist with the appropriate diagnostic kit, it might be worth exploring if such an option exists and if your seat modules could be reprogrammed/reconfigured. Alternatively, has anyone else found it possible to modify their seat modules and can recall if backrest angle adjustment was among the options? :?: Mike.

Many thanks Mike.
I will try my friendly Jaguar specialist and let you know if I have any success.

Hi Mike.
I have finally sorted the seat problem. It needed a visit to Westover Jaguar in Christchurch where they "recalibrated" the seat modules. They could not understand why both seats had the same problem but suggested that it might have happened when the battery was disconnected. Anyway they both work fine now.

Good news that the car is fixed, a strange one nonetheless. Mike.
