New rack

Postby Damian.Gardner » Wed May 10, 2006 1:42 pm

Well after alot of messing about it looks like I might need a new rack, I cannot stop the dam thing leaking were the bypass and power steering pipes fit. Now im not sure if to go for a re-con rack or try to fix the existing one. It seems like I will need new bypass pipes and to be honest the threads in the rack don't seem too good. The larger of the two power sterring pipes is a git to get back into the rack and seems to have to go in at an angle =/

Has anyone managed to stop these things form leaking and would it be better to replace the rack or just the bypass pipes????? (As ill have to remove the dam thing anyhow!!!!)

Also do I have to get hold of one of these alignment tools to-do the job?

Thanks

Damian

In my experience with steering racks you have two choices...
1. Go original/Main Dealer route.........or
2. Go to a local steering/rack SPECIALIST
I would recommend route 2. because it will be a lot cheaper and they deal with steering racks everyday of the week. I expect they'll do you an exchange rack, fitted, off the shelf, with warranty. Also they'll check out associated unions etc. as part of the install.
Can't be bad.
Suggest you make enquiries locally.
