Steering rack oil-cooler

Postby poprivet » Thu Apr 13, 2006 9:01 pm

Can anyone explain why the V12 has an oil cooler in the hydraulic steering system whilst the 6cyl doesn't?
Sure the V12 is heavier but is there any practical difference to warrant additional cooling?

Maybe it's the heat from the engine - it does get hot in there, and there's not much air circulation room.

could it be that the twin exhausts on the V12 heat the rack and piping more than the single downpipe on the straight 6?
