3.6 power steering pump removal

Postby Brakebuster » Mon Sep 23, 2013 10:38 am

A M8 of mine has a 3.6 with a leak on the power steering pump , this is mounted on the engine using a physical drive shaft , totally unlike the V12 pump

i have got a seal kit from Heritage so thats a start , but what i'm looking for is info on the best way to remove the pump its self, as in do i remove the pump from the adaptor , or take out the whole lot and strip down on the bench

any and all advice is welcome

remove the pipes, remove 3 x 13mm (??) bolts, one is well hidden of course, take the whole unit off and do it on the bench

Hi Vince, as you will know by now there are only three bolts holding the pump to the engine, but is the leak red hydraulic fluid or engine oil? If its the red stuff I can't help but if its engine oil I had the same once.

The engine oil seal was dificult to get at, in fact I never, ever, want to replace that oil seal again!

thanks Pop , but its definatley red power steering fluid, and the bottle needs regular filling up as well ,

the original jaguar seal kit is only £9 or so , and hopefully will not prove to hard to do , i was looking for some insight as i havnt worked on the 3.6 before , but while having a look yesterday to see where the leak was i could tell its gona be a royal PITA to do , lol

i am also doing some anti-roll bar links, upper wishbone bushes and new discs and pads , so have my work cut out for a day or more , the steering rack mounting bushes also look and feel soft, so will consider the polly conversion at a later date ,

thanks for the input
