Leaking expansion valve?

Postby BjornV » Tue May 19, 2015 5:08 pm

Just a question for the forum.
The car in question here is a 1994 6.0l V12 coupé.
The gas in the AC-system has leaked out, and today i got a workshop to test it for leaks.
They say that there is a small leak from the expansion valve.
As I understad it, that is this part (MMC6442AA), http://www.sngbarratt.com/PartSearchRes ... =MMC6442AA

Do anyone here know how difficult/easy it is to change one of theese?
Would a resonably good mechanic be able to do it? Theese guys are not Jaguar experts, more like experienced in working with AC-systems.

Bjorn,

Are you sure that it's the valve? My very limited experience makes me think that it's more likely just to be the O-ring connectors for the pipes to the valve.

The O-rings are available for just a few pounds direct from Jaguar for just a few pounds or pence. See the part numbers and prices here:

http://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk/ja ... -4-0-litre

A good A/C engineer would be able to replace them and recharge the system.

Good luck

Can´t say that I´m sure. Only knows what the worshop guy said. I do know that they (same place) changed some O-rings in this area 2 years ago.

But if we assume that they are correct. Is it difficult to change the expansion valve?
