Lack of screen demist heat - Delanaire Mk3

Postby CliveRothwell » Fri Oct 14, 2011 11:05 pm

I started to look into this problem ages ago and have forgotten where I got with it! Well, now that summer has gone, the problem is back and I need to solve it once and for all.

I have replaced the air con ECU (by leaving the original in place and simply plugging in the 3 multi-pin connectors and the single spade connector- this has made no difference to performance.

Pure cold air comes from the screen vents no matter what position I set the controls to. I can get warm air into the foot wells but nothing from the centre vent under any control settings. Cold air can be achieved into the footwells.

Any thoughts please? I am considering taking the car to an independent garage to sort it out!

The upper servo motor or the flap it controls may be stuck?

Item 2 in the picture below. When moving it should be getting 7 volts.

The picture is in a booklet on the JDHT's XJS supplement CD (JHM1123)

There's a raft of other useful stuff including wiring diagrams, service sheets, training notes, model year changes etc.

This is just a word of thanks to the many members who have offered advice over the past 7 months or so whilst I have grappled with the depths of the car's pipework. Ultimately, the solution to a lack of demist was resolved by taking out the instrument binnacle, locatiing the upper flap servo motor on hte right hand side of the Delanair unit, and, with the car hot and running, and with the settings set to demist, I HIT IT WITH A HAMMER! Within seconds, the servo whirred back into life and a blast of hot air hit the screen for the first time since I bought the car back in April. I have given the unit a good hot to cold cycling several times over a few days and it has definitely cured the fault of a sticking upper servo motor.
Rule 1: always read everything you can, thinking logically.
An understanding of how the unit actually works was the clue to success in this instance.
Rule 2: Eliminate all variables, taking and keeping notes of what you HAVE done / checked. I found I checked voltages at the servo at least once only to find out I had already checked it 4 months ago!
Rule 3: talk to people in a garage who KNOW Jagauars!
Rule 4: never give up - because your Jaguar's worth it!

Cheers

Clive

Rule 5. If in doubt, HIT IT WITH A ****** HAMMER (Calibrated universal adjusting tool)

I`ll dig out my Techi Manual on this. I`m sure there is a diagram there.

Will post reply on the S-type BB shortly.

Jeff,

I'm sure if you post your enquiry in the S-Type section of the BB, Mike K or other A-Type owners may better be able to assist you.

Good luck with sorting the problem

Hi Jeff,

No problem with posting in different areas of the BB in order to elicit different responses. I hope you get the problem sorted. Just a polite reminder that as per normal BB etiquette, Clive "owns" this thread having initiated it and asked for assistance to his problem. It would be normal to initiate a new thread to seek assistance for your diagram. As I said, good luck with getting it resolved.

Regards,

Paul
