Heat coming into cabin of 1993 4.0l xjs

Postby dmcq73 » Sun Aug 01, 2010 12:40 pm

While driving the car and with the air condition fans on i do not get cool air rather slightly warm air. When fan is turned off there is what i can only describe as a panting noise on and off which disappears when fan is turned on. Has anyone got any clue as to what the problem is?

Regards

Danny

The panting noise is almost definately the control circuit for the blower motor, which is in the fan casing for cooling. One of the zener diodes on the circuit board goes open ciruit and the feedback loop is broken, so the fan (there are two) will puff every ten seconds or so.

The lack of cool air could either be a stuck flap in the main unit behind the centre console or just a lack of gas.

One other avenue worth considering is the state of your drains. I had something similar with warm air from the bottom vents on climate control. On manual okay. Emptied what must have been a litre of water from the system via the air-con drains and all returned to normal.
