Replacement Harrison A/C Compressor

Postby DavidCabriolet » Wed Sep 06, 2017 10:25 am

The Harrison compressor on my XJS 3.6 1986my has failed and I'm looking at replacements such as a light alloy case model from the USA and refurbished units here in the UK. Does any one have experience or recommendations as to which is the best route to take? Many thanks, David.

Do you know how it has failed? I'm guessing seal leakage in which case replacement is necessary but leakage can also happen at the pressure switch O ring which is simpler.

The condenser is always suspect and may need replacement as well. The receiver/dryer will need replacing in any case so it might be worth having the whole system overhauled in one go by a specialist such as KWE who can also use a drop-in gas to simplify the problem of the old R12 gas being banned.

If you decide to purchase individual components there is always the problem of who is responsible for making sure that everything works and is covered by warranty, it's an expensive thing to get wrong as I have learnt in the past..

Many thanks for the reply, its the bearings that have failed. I'm hoping to just replace the compressor. There is a light alloy one advertiesed in the US as a direct replacement via eBay which sounds interesting.
