IMPERIAL LENS SCREWS

Postby dg4cars » Tue Jul 05, 2011 11:23 am

Looking for help here - my 1973 Series 1 XJ6 is missing a few screws in various external light fittings eg. indicator lens and reversing light. I am finding it impossible to get imperial screws and the metric ones are not the right size. Has anyone any advice please

Away from the garage at the moment so can't check but I *think* the screws/bolts etc are BA threads. If a google search doesn't turn up a supplier nearby, your local model making shop may be able to help if you take a sample along.

Going out even further on a limb, the BA thread is actually metric based, so it is just conceivable that a similar, slightly smaller metric bolt may be persuaded to fit.

4mm metric will fit into a 2BA thread, and hold quite well,

and the ' Pan-Head ' screws look quite good, you can get them in brass or chrome/nickel plate

it was used in my electrical trade,

however,

the 2BA wont go into the 4mm , never........

If you have the JDHT workshop/Parts manual - flick through and find the part number of the fixing you require. Then give SNG Barratt a call. You will be amazed at what they have that are either genuine, or a cross referance part!

Hi,
If you're still looking for the oem parts, PM me and give me the list, I have LOTS of series parts either NOS or 'gently used'. Postage from Canada, isn't that expensive.

Gent's,
I've just used the info on this thread to source a couple of parts, many thanks, very useful.
After phoning the main parts suppliers; David Manners, SNG Barratt etc, I eventually found the parts I required from Martin Robey & JDHT.
Thanks again for the useful information.
