Oil

Postby Tcollis » Thu Jun 20, 2019 6:18 pm

Hi all,
I have a high mileage (200k) 2003 XJ6. I checked the oil level recently to find out that it was below the minimum level indicator on the dipstick. I initially topped up with just a litre of oil and noticed that this did not increase the level that much. I ended up putting a further 2 litres in that brought the level up to near the top of the dipstick.

However I checked again only about 5 to 6 weeks later to find the level low again. I drive from Derbyshire to Sheffield and back four days a week, which is around 180 miles plus personal so I reckon I'm covering around 200 to 230 miles a week.

Does anyone know whether that looks like a lot of oil? It's not blowing blue smoke out of the exhaust. Or are the 3ltr V6s just a bit oil thirsty?

Thanks very much,

Tim.
