Hi, I’m considering buying a s1 (1971) 2.8 xj6. Been to see the car and it seeems to have been really cared for. Owned by the same family from new and only 37k miles. I intend to use the car as a daily driver (only do a few thousand miles a year) but from what I’ve seen on the interweb, advice is to stay clear of the 2.8 unit because of its unrealiability. I’d appreciate your wisdom on this one! Thanks.
The 2.8 litre version was produced in order to undercut European tax legislation; they were never popular and sold poorly compared to the 4.2 litre models. There are also significant differences in value and performance. Get a 4.2 if you can.
