Spare parts for road trip ?

Postby stujags » Fri Aug 30, 2019 5:20 pm

Hi I'm new to JEC and thought you might like my Jag picture. It's certainly not conventional. Bought for charity banger Ralley to Gibraltar next month.
I have done full service, wheel bearings, fixed cruise & A/C as well as other modifications.
Any suggestions on spare parts to take on a 3500 mile road trip in a £500 Jag, what can kill my Cat without warning, that I can prepare for fixing enroute ?

stujags,

Good luck with the trip, it sounds a great idea and very worthy!

I travel abroad a few times a year with my AJ16 XJS and I carry a crank sensor, a coil pack, a fan belt, a thermostat and a spark plug. I've never needed any of them, but they are the most likely failure points on that engine. The other thing you might have considered is a bottom hose but they are complex and expensive (over £100 from Jaguar and I don't know of any aftermarket options. The other nuisance hose is the small one underneath the inlet manifold but it would be a real pain to fix that one by the roadside, so I'd take my chances on that one!

Good luck, have a great trip!

stujags,

The bits I mentioned, crank sensor, coil pack, fan belt, spark plug and thermostat; you really don't want to take used parts. They'll have to be new ones. If you don't want to buy new ones, then I would just risk it. AJ16 engines are really very reliable.

Cheers
