Suspension Compressor X300

Postby PeterDavisX300 » Fri Aug 09, 2019 7:02 pm

Hi to all.

I'm about to do a full front suspension re-build with new components. If I have to I'll make a front coil spring compressor, but if someone has one handy that they'll let me use and return, (sort of long-term) or if someone has a used one that's either the genuine article or a well fabricated one, I'd be interested. Money changing hands of course.

Hi, I have a decent spring compressor - picked it up at an autojumble recently. Do you still want one? Where are you located? I am in Chester, Cheshire. Alec G.

Hi Alec

I'm in the frozen Very-North of Scotland. Is your compressor the correct 'up-the-middle-of-the-front-springs' and turn 90 degrees to lock compressor???? A genuine Jaguar one? Or home-made? Wow, if it's the right one I'll be a happy fella!!!!

Sorry for the delay, we have been away from home. Yes it is a genuine job, not home made. I have only recently acquired it and not used it. Could photograph it and send such to you if I can have your e-mail. I am located in Chester.

I do not want to sell the spring compressor, but you could loan it for say six months or whatever. I could post it to you at some cost, or we could meet at say the AGM? Alec Gurney.

Hi Peter, I am due for an eye operation today and there will be some lifting restrictions afterwards I am sure. Will contact you in a few days. Alec. The Gurney name comes from a bunch of knights that came over with William the Conqueror in 1066. It comes from Le Gurne, or something similar, he is mentioned in a list of Norman knights who fought and survived the battle of Hastings. One of my brothers has researched the family tree and can get back to the 1500's. You would be surprised who is in the family. It includes the Victorian bank lot based in East Anglia, that joined up with Barkley's in the early 20th century, Elizabeth Fry and many others. We are now world wide. There is even a racing driver.Alec.

Peter, I have posted the spring compressor today. It will leave Chester around 16.00hrs and is estimated to take three days to get to your part of the world. I have sent it by PARCEL FORCE tracking number FWQG7215139GB. It weighs 9kilos! Alec.

Hi Alec
Received the spring compressor this morning, very very grateful. However, although a terrific looking piece of kit, it only compresses springs off the car, and is a generic piece of kit. I was hoping for the genuine Jaguar spring compressor that goes up through the centre of the wishbones and locks into the top. Like the link below. I need to compress the springs whilst they are mounted on the car, and this compressor you have sent is an off-car compressor, still I can't see how it would do any of the X300 springs, front or rear because of their position on the car.

https://www.sngbarratt.com/uk/?gclid=EA ... ies%20X300

Thanks very much for sending the kit, I shall be returning it asap, and of course cover your postage costs. Please tell me how much it was to send.

Hi Peter,

If you are interested in purchasing the genuine brand new item (for less than SNG Barratt's price), I can make enquiries for you.

Steve.

Thanks very much for your kind offer, but have now paid for and bought genuine article from SNG. I thought everyone knew exactly what the genuine article was, only it will do realistically to remove the front springs, especially as I do all work outside on the ground.

Thanks

Glad you are sorted.

I had one originally (bought new) but sold it on because I had sold my X300.
Then someone else enquired about one, and got that, on their behalf for £117.00 (same price I'd paid the previous year!), in 2017.

It still hasn't gone up much now.
