Air Con Power steering idler pulley

Postby 6sabre » Wed Mar 18, 2015 5:50 pm

Hi all,
I had a sound like a bearing failure coming from the front of the engine. 4.0 X300. It turned out to be the idler pulley for the aircon/steering belt.
I initially removed the seal and put some grease in it but have now replaced it.

I found a replacement pulley which is metal and was a good saving at £14.
The GATES 38006 is an equivalent option, but couldn't find a UK reference, but an Ebay seller provided
FEBEST 0388-YD2 which is a Honda idler.

It is easy to change:
Loosen the centre bolt (10mm)
Wind clockwise the 1/4 square drive below the pulley to slacken the belt tension.
Remove the bolt, move centre washer to new idler and reassemble in reverse.

I use a 1/4 drive extension with an old brake adjuster to wind the adjuster.

Hope this is of use.
