Re: Coolant pressure

Hi Paul, You do sound as if you have been unlucky. Coolant header tanks are a weak spot on many makes including Jaguars but to have two go so quickly is unlucky. Can you be certain the thermostat was changed and for the correct one? If there's a deeper problem, I would have anticipated older hoses b...

Re: Kent Alloys

Later cars had Kent wheels with the centres painted a 'gunmetal' colour but I seem to recall that earlier wheels had a darker shade, much closer to black. Mike.

Re: S2 fuel tank in S1?

Unfortunately, it's inevitable the use of ethanol in fuels, especially in cars only used infrequently, will result in more crud formation in tanks. The answer is keep using your classics! However, to return to specifics, your existing tanks should have filters in their bases to take out the worst of...

Re: Gearbox whine

Servicing an auto box only consists of replacing the oil and filter. No checks would have been carried out on its internals as part of a service. Tracing noises, like whines, is always difficult because sound may travel along deceptive pathways. Before condemning the gearbox, which is usually reliab...

Re: Rear pads,discs, callipers. Bushes

You have plenty of decent options with suppliers advertising in the Jaguar Enthusiast magazine but you ought to give some thought first to what type of car you want to drive. If you want it to perform as Jaguar intended, you need OE or equivalent bushes and shock absorbers. If you want to uprate the...

Re: Fuel smell S3 XJ6

Without yet more blind guessing on my part, it seems the dripping pipe is the vent pipe which, on emission controlled cars, is connected to the carbon cannister. I doubt it connects to the air bleed valve. Mike.

Re: CONVERTIBLE TOP

Not sure I can give an opinion on the convertible top 'best' cleaner. Jaguar used to sell one branded as theirs which I used for several years. When that was no longer available, I began to use an Autoglym product. I can't say I found a great deal of difference between them or even the usual branded...

Re: Fuel smell S3 XJ6

Hmm, there definitely shouldn't be any fuel emerging from the under car vent pipe. The air bleed and the vapour separator are different components. It's unlikely you would ever need to change them. The fact that changing tanks causes the problem to get worse still holds a hint that one of the electr...

Re: Rim sizes

18" wheels with larger section tyres would give a slightly softer ride. However, since replacing 4 wheels and tyres won't be a cheap exercise, it would be best to find an owner with a car on 18" wheels and to try it first. The difference may or may not be sufficient for your needs. It would also be ...

Re: Fuel smell S3 XJ6

Some models were fitted with a carbon cannister to absorb fuel vapour from the tanks. The vapour separator mounted above tank level in the C pillar was connected to allow liquid to drain back into the tank and the vapour to pass forward to the carbon cannister and then burnt in the engine. Cars with...

Re: Replacement Exhaust System - Cat Back

Have a word with SNG Barratt. It's a while since I checked but they were offering reasonably priced replacement systems with just a hint more V8 woofle than standard. With spares day not too far away, you might also be able to get a 10% discount by picking it up from Stoneleigh. Mike.
