Re: I usually drive an XJR but now I`m going to be a Hurricane pilot!

Having cured over-night, the epoxy and glass cloth over sheathing on the cowl was sufficiently hardened to allow machine and hand sanding this morning. My little 2" Proxxon rotary sander ripped through the epoxy and glass overlap joints like a demon and made light work of leveling the three coats of...

Re: Headlight Restoration

The important thing appears to be the use of the anti-UV "sun tan" preparation after the clean up. This helps keep UV attack at reasonable levels. Nice looking result you have there.

Re: 2001 XKR Lacking Power

Nice one, David. What a flog this has been. The gearbox is I believe adaptive and might take time to learn your driving style. It might we worth considering having the gearbox re-flashed to ensure the gearbox and ECU are talking from the same page. A re-flash is common procedure after having a gearb...

Yes, it is very useful to have Avicraft at Bromley. Rob Newman is a total model nut. He bends over backwards to ensure you get what you need at sensible and negotiable prices and it doesn`t stop there because his knowledge and experience are brought into play when you go to see him with a problem. I...

Re: I usually drive an XJR but now I`m going to be a Hurricane pilot!

I survived the removal of the electronic gizmo from my back and am now stitched back up again. A few more dressing changes and hopefully I should be back to normal. Another trip to Guys comes up on Monday for further urological tests and hopefully the removal of the accursed catheter. What happens a...

Re: X-Type Corrosion problem

The short answer is, yes, the X-type is made from steel and just like S-type, X308XJ and XK8 models of the same time line, they do suffer from rot issues as do many other makes of car. As they age, tin worm is often sufficient enough to cause cars to end up at the breakers yard. Repairing a low valu...

Re: Dsc fault

Check that you have not crushed or pinched the sensor lead when you jacked the car for compressor overhaul. The leads can fault but that is a rare occurrence. Also check and clean connections to the chassis loom plug and also the connection into the front wheel bearing cartridges which have internal...

Re: X350/8 Air suspension unit replacement option.

An unstable battery ie tired and old, is the usual suspect for the DSC light. This often occurs after a cold start and perhaps with more frequent appearance during cold, winter conditions. Bad batteries can account for so much electric/electronic misery. Drop test the battery before you go shelling ...

Re: MAF sensor clean up. ....all modern Jags applicable.

Soft, lint free rag and spray carb cleaner. Go easy on the teflon coated area around the throttle plate. Most of the grunge will be below the throttle plate. Ensure all the grunge is removed from the throat, throttle plate and spindle. Ensure you have a new throttle body gasket to hand before you st...

Re: X350/8 Air suspension unit replacement option.

I`ll have a word with Nigel shortly and see what the current article bin still holds.

Most certainly Steve`s suspension conversion needs publication as soon as possible given that the 350 isn`t getting any younger and more cars will inevitably start to require suspension damper replacement.

Re: X350/8 Air suspension unit replacement option.

Thanks for that, Steve. Very useful. Perhaps you could describe how the car now drives. Is it an improvement? I`m assuming that the Arnott coil over kit is non CATS. If that is the case, how do you terminate the old CATS plugs that used to connect to the air dampers? Presumably you just tidy them aw...

Rather than get into technical aspects of the site, I`ve mailed Steve and asked him to drop onto this thread and advise on his conversion. Watch this space.

Re: Code reader....any recommendations

Many of us here have the iCarsoft 930i unit. UK Diagnostics are a known good supplier. I can confirm the the 930i is capable of diagnosing and reading suspension fault codes. It is a good unit for around £100 and does all I`ve ever needed from it. It is Jaguar/Landrover dedicated. The more sophistic...

Re: X350/8 Air suspension unit replacement option.

The last six alpha/numeric digits in the VIN give your specific car build identifier. Going to conventional Arnott type coil over dampers will require an electronic bridge unit to be fitted and to fool the car electronics into thinking the air dampers are still present. Which unit is required for a ...

Re: I usually drive an XJR but now I`m going to be a Hurricane pilot!

Thanks, Jerry. Regret I`m rather feeling my age presently. (61) This sort of thing isn`t fun. Odd that I never had any idea there could be a problem. Apparently anesthetic does cause this type of reaction. Greatly wishing I could burn out the residue and get back to normal. That bipe is a definite n...
