Re: Failed servo

Hello Folks On the back of the engine is a vacuum pump on the 2.7d providing vacuum assistance to the Brake Servo and EGR valves, this doesn't go wrong very often.Unlikely failure of this, you'd have all sorts of EGR alarms up, or the Servo results in brakes that feel like putting your foot against ...

Re: New to S type

Hello John My favourite Jaguar a modern S-Type enjoying the benefit of Ford's QA system and Jaguar design (although a bit questionable), I had two. I have an XF now. an S-Type in a different body. The only thing that lets it down is the component supply chain the logivity of parts of which is non-ex...

Re: 2.7D Coolant Change Issues

Mike is absolutely right it's an airlock courtesy of Jaguar's superb cooling system design. The "manual" procedure is to fill as you would normally, open the heater to max heat ,put fan outlet on full through the dashboard outlets and run the engine until hot air comes out. Allow too cool and top up...

Driver’s Door Window

Hello Folks Well it’s 94,034 mls the 3.0d Premium Luxury XF , I should be so lucky!!! that is , it’s started, on the slippery slope to oblivion, and the ending of Jaguar ownership after 20 years. The S Type is already gone waiting for the scrap man to come and get it. I just couldn’t burden another ...

Re: Sub frame corrosion

Hello Folks I also am a victim of Jaguar's designed life corrosion specification on two of my earlier cars (S Types) the third (XF) is just about arriving at the same destination. The first S Type (3.0L SE) dropped it's exhaust system when the hangers rusted away. The second S Type(2.7d) rusted out ...

Re: Coolant Leak

Hello Mike Too right, feel free to share. Car on SORN until my mate can have a look, Even then I have no faith in the car even though I am attached to it. With 70% of new cars in China being returned to dealers for defects and reliability issues JLR deserve to go to the wall. They've lost their way ...

Who would have believed that this was £53.47 plus Postage, if you showed someone and asked how much do you think?, the reply would be a couple of quid not more than a Fiver and that would be generous. I must have a screw loose somewhere!.

Re: Coolant Leak

Hello Mike Definitely a money pit. Stopped now though. If my mate can't fix it without removing the engine I'll contact ASM and scrap it. Good job we have a reliable BMW second car to run about in now. Beginning to look again at Mercedes/BMW for caravan duty so we'll see before the XF, now 10 years ...

Re: Coolant Leak

Hello Folks Pressurized the coolant circuit and had coolant running off the under tray towards the rear of the engine.Went to 15psi on the system 3 psi short of the cap pressure of 120 kpa. Car tucked up in yard. Insurance cancelled and on SORN for foreseeable future or at least until my mate can lo...

Re: Coolant Leak

Hello Folks Well got the car back 3rd July they could only do two of the pipes 218 and 219, they didn’t do 217 because they said the engine had to be removed to do it, as with the plastic coolant inlet bracket. There must be even less room in the engine bay in an S Type than in the X350 to be able t...

Hello Mike Might do, car is in on Tuesday and we'll see how difficult it is to replace XR849217 vis-vie possible cost issue gaining access, might decide to SORN the car again until enthusiasm to spend the saved money on it returns. By the way it appears that these pipes are common to the Diesel 350 ...

Re: Coolant Leak

Update It looks like pipe XR849217 has a hole in it also, lost water on the drive today, shocked. My car is booked in to Stokenchurch Services, 25th, to have pipes XR849218 and XR849219 replaced which I've received From SNG Barratt ready, XR848271 had already been replaced after failure in the middl...

Re: Binding NSR Parking Brake

Hello Peter I would suggest the piston in the calliper is seizing. The clue being how hard it was to wind it back. Eurocarparts do an exchange service for the calliper at a reasonable cost, note wait until the end of a calendar month for the best discount. Bremtech do the same sort of scheme. Check ...

Re: Coolant Leak

Hello Folks Update Pipes have arrived from SNG Barratt, and I've coated them in POR 15 Black protective paint. IMG_6565.JPG You'll notice on the packaging Jaguar labels. No wonder they cost so much. Car booked in at Stokenchurch Services 25th to have them fitted and correct coolant refilled, only be...
