Re: oil change this morning

Changed the oil and filter and did a re-set. No message and all seems fine.

Re: Air con odd problem. Facelift 4l 1992

I'd go stuck flaps. Thump the top of the dash in the area immediately above the face vents (obviously avoiding damaging any part of your person) :D

Re: oil change this morning

I'm new to diesels but actually liking my experience thus far. Some advice please. I've been getting a message that says "service required within 1400 miles. I bought the car in April (2.2) and it has had an annual services from new. All but the last one from a Jag main Dealer. I'm guessing this rel...

Re: Brake bleeding after caliper change?

Thanks Paul I'll change the pads this weekend and probably should do the discs at the same time (but they are fair and not warped) so may leave it a while. It's not like its a 5 minute job on the XJS (by the time you have recovered and put back all the shims that inevitably come away with the calipe...

Re: Brake bleeding after caliper change?

Hi Paul

I was thinking. The front flexible brake hose is reinforced and not easy to clamp. Would connecting an "easy bleed" to an open nipple when pushing the pistons back into the caliper be a good way round this? I really don't want to run the risk of wrecking the valve block.

Re: ATF Smokescreen!

Remember you need to get the fluid hot in the gearbox and to cycle all gears parked on a flat surface and then take the reading about five times to be sure. Easy to overfill otherwise and it will escape and smoke.

Re: Cruise Not Available - Loss of Power

I believe the "no cruise control" warning is the first on the list so that if anything presents this then gets flagged up.If it helps, I'm on my third X Type and any fault codes presented usually bear little resemblance to the fault in question. By way of example and a few years ago I experienced a ...

Re: Facelift Door Mirror Fix

Hi Paul - I'm not happy to admit public ally to such a horrendous act of vandalism. I did it in a moment of panic, it worked and I will get around to a proper resolve when I retire this year. My greater concern at the moment is hardening seals in the gearbox presenting in a harsh first to second shi...

Re: Facelift Door Mirror Fix

I'm not proud admitting this publicly but I squirted silicone sealant in there and this has worked perfectly over the last ten years. 5 minute fix. Obviously a significant bodge (I was late for the ferry) but has stood the test of time. Would I resort to such again in the future. Hopefully not as I'...

Re: Pressurised coolant header tank.

Hi Alec I've a similar problem with my wife's 2005 2.5 Sport. I've plugged various leaks which I believe in sequence were caused by excessive pressure building up and the system merely finding the next weakest point. I think I can smell exhaust gasses in the coolant but will need to get that checked...

Dash Cam Road Rage

Against my better judgement I was persuaded to take a look at some of the "Road Rage" UK type dash cam footage out there on the internet. I couldn't help thinking that in many of the clips, the "dash-cam" vehicle driver either ramped - up a situation, or continued to abuse the other driver to the ma...
