Re: Harsh Gear Changes

Tris,

The dirty ATF will have about 18% of the original fluid diluted in it. However, it does seem quite dirty, although it's difficult to see in the opaque containers. Could you pour some dirty and clean fluids into clear glasses so we can see the difference?

Re: Garage Frost protection

Hi Dave, Congrats on the garage purchase! The biggest killer of our cars tends to be moisture rather than temperature. I'd suggest that a dehumidifier is more important in protecting a car in a garage than a heater. There are 2 types of portable dehumidifier. The first is a condenser-type which coll...

Re: European breakdown - shared ownership

Alec, A number of the classic insurance companies offer European breakdown policies. I'm guessing that you're going to be making a few trips each year so an annual policy rather than individual trip policies would seem to make more sense. I'm assuming that you're taking out insurance in one of your ...

Re: Mk V Restoration

godd, Congratulations! The car looks superb in the picture, you must be very proud. I'm sure this would be a great article for the magazine. Paul Skilleter and Nigel Thorley would be delighted to feature this. And your 8-year "rush" puts my 30-year unfinished TR6 restoration to shame! Well done Paul

Re: Tensioner type on year 2004 replacement engine?

Doug, You undoubtedly need to get the top ones checked and changed immediately if not the all-metal type. As regards, the lowers: I would definitely do them also, particularly if you're going to run the car a while longer. If you're just doing it up to sell, then maybe leave the bottom as it's the p...

Re: Clear Lenses

Simon, I quite like the look! I'm nearly ready to start my own upgrade experiment. What bulbs did you use in the side indicators? I purchased some 25 SMD amber LEDs but because they sit quite close to the inside of the lens, I think they'll spoil the clear look. Clear Lens 2.jpg So I've bought some ...

Re: Harsh Gear Changes

Keep the changes going, Tris! Fluid is cheap!

Remember, after 4 changes, you've still got over 1/4 of the old fluid still left in there.

Good luck

Re: Mystery black box - any idea what it is?

Agreed,

It's just a plastic £2.50 cover for the inertia switch. The two nobbles are just part of the cover not LEDs.

The central locking issue won't be impacted by the bonnet release lever which is just mechanical.

Good luck with your investigations.

Re: Catalytic Converter - Which Part Number

aparky85, The Jaguar parts website seems to identify the differing part number depending on the VIN of your car. However, I'd be wary of just replacing a £900 cat without further investigation. That code could be getting thrown even due to faulty lambda sensors. The cat itself can't send the code, i...

Re: Scratching the Itch

Matt, Nice-looking car! (I have one in Sapphire also) And it looks good with the optional spoiler and 3rd brake light. Glad to hear that you've got the windscreen surround fixed. It's almost definite that your wet carpets were caused by that than the aircon. Do make sure that you get the wing bottom...

Re: Wanted XJS Facelift rad grille

John, There are differing types of grille part numbers depending on the VIN of your car. Jaguar moved from black plastic, to body-coloured, and back to black plastic at differing times during the facelift era. I was hoping I might be able to guess the age of your car from your sig. But because "Good...

Re: Footwell fusebox cover

I'm not sure if the cover has a separate part number but the whole footwell fusebox is still available from Jaguar if you want it. Different part numbers dependent on the VIN. Just pop along to the parts website and take your pick.

Good luck

X-Type Clutch life

I'm thinking of buying a c£1500 X-type in order to cut down my fuel costs. So, it needs to be a diesel, either 2.0 or 2.2, and will probably be a manual as these are much more plentiful. I'd prefer an estate but it's not essential. Many of the cars that I see advertised have about 125k mileage so I'...

Re: SNG Barratt discount?

On genuine parts, I absolutely agree that a Main Dealer is best for price. I usually get 20% from my local dealer, so it's only really OE parts that I might use Barratts or Manners. But it would be nice to find out how to get the fabled JEC discount from SNG!
