Suspension Compressor X300

Hi to all. I'm about to do a full front suspension re-build with new components. If I have to I'll make a front coil spring compressor, but if someone has one handy that they'll let me use and return, (sort of long-term) or if someone has a used one that's either the genuine article or a well fabric...

Re: Interior door handle screw

Hi Chris Go onto ebay and look for 'Kayfast' fasteners. They will have, and they are Stainless-Steel, because I got some a couple of years ago. Unfortunately I only bought a pack of ten, and have already shared them out. They are a tiny bit long, so I cut them with a junior hacksaw and filed them to...

Re: XJR6 Tyre Options

Michelin are a great tyre. Top of the range, ................But, I'd wonder about mileage? All the top tyres are really great, For-What-They-Do. Each tyre manufacturer will profess to do, all sorts of different things, Grip / Mileage / wet-grip / allsorts. What YOU need to decide is what you want y...

Re: gear box fail

Hi Don My first port of call, would be the MAF sensor. I would take it off completely, and give it a good spray with a strong 'Carb-Cleaner' I've cleaned many MAF sensors using this method, and this because essentially the MAF sensor is a Ford item, just like the ABS equipment, (I used to work as an...

Re: WANTED getrag 265

Hi There A good 'Hardy' gearbox the 265. Years ago (when I was much younger and foolish) BMW's were my 'thing', and I can't tell you how many times I've taken-out, and replaced, and stripped this gearbox. I had a lot of BMW E12's, the 'older' '528' / '535' model, and a couple of the later E28 model....

Re: XJR6 Tyre Options

Steve. Yep, Toyo are ok. They are a medium priced Tyre, with respect among most that use them sensibly. For the X300 '235' is wide enough in my opinion, and a more sensible '50' aspect-ratio would be a good choice. Always go onto the manufacturer website and get their recommendation for tyre pressur...

Re: suspension /steering double clonk

I would say, 'double-clonk' = both ball joints (upper and lower) on the hub. Probably something like the previous owner used to bump the car up a kerb regularly. I agree with AJP, jack-up the car and do his tests. If you need to replace the 'Off-Side' probably best to replace the 'near-Side' too. Be...

Re: XJ6 1996-2000, driving through Hot countries like Turkey and Iran

I have driven my 1995 XJ6 X300 to Malta and back, and used it in Malta for 6 weeks, in July August with temperatures around 35-42 degrees C. No problems except for heat and dust. (Malta is very Dusty, and the roads are bumpy and dirty) I serviced the car before going, and greased-up the axle-shafts ...

Springs.

Hello All As some may know I've not long ago done a full rear suspension-out re-furbish. Because I couldn't get new 'Jaguar' rear springs, I use a 'recommended' spring, (YES by a couple of our recommended dealers on here) Suplex (In the Yellow and Blue Boxes). THEY ARE RUBBISH! I'm a Fully Qualified...

Re: Daimler double six

If you're going to do the rear suspension, the only best way is to do the whole lot by dropping-out the whole rear frame. I did this just recently, it's fiddly and it's heavy work. I would replace all the bushes and the rear dampers and springs. Be careful when extracting the 'swing-arm bolts, they'...

Re: 3.2 Manual, worth it?

Wouldn't touch it for that money. The Manual gearbox 'shouldn't' be too much of a draw. If you really wanted a manual gearbox car, you should only do 4 litre.

Would you not have more mosquitoes if it was hotter?
Only towards the West. I'm in the 'Middle' so fairly 'Midgy' free. Anyways, I've had Malaria pe, and always have a wee supply of Mepacrine. So Midgy / Mossie bites don't bother me!

Re: XJR6 Tyre Options

I want the tyre to last forever, then I don't have to keep replacing the damn things. I don't do traffic light Grand Prix starts (any more) and I don't hang the tail out everywhere I go. I also want them to cost about 15p. Ah yes. I live in the far-North of Scotland, and I want the sun to shine eve...

Re: XJR6 Tyre Options

Just for general info, all Tyres that are sold 'properly' in the UK, (other than imports) MUST have a 'Treadwear' number, with '400' as the highest, for hard-wearing. Starting at '150' for the 'softer' Tyre obviously for more grip and for high-performance, but less mileage. So, if you choose a Tyre ...

Re: XJR6 Tyre Options

Comforser Tyres are not Canadian, they are made for the Canadian market by the chinese. They primarily do off-road tyres, and have just branched into road tyres. In my opinion they are too-soft, and would probably wear quite quickly, and provide very little cornering support for a heavy car like the...
