Re: Exploding expansion tank x2

Two thoughts; first, I would think that a new tank came with a new pressure relief cap, but if not and the old cap was re-used, it might be faulty and not relieving excess pressure. Second and more likely is that the tank was over-filled and couldn't relieve the coolant expansion fast enough. The X1...

Re: Victory edition find. Need help

All that AJP says is correct, but note that the Victory Edition was only available in the USA! What you probably have is the UK edition that is the XK8 4.2S model, easily identified by the 4.2S badge on the back and the white growler badge on the bonnet plus many other distinguishing features/extras...

Re: Coolant overflowing from header tank

Sorry, I don't mean overheating other than the temperature higher than normal such that it requires the fans to be running after the engine is shut down. Perhaps for some reason Simon's fans are running only when the engine is running and not, if required, when he shuts down, hence the overexpansion...

Re: Coolant overflowing from header tank

Are you sure you're not overfilling the system? Unlike earlier XK8/Rs, the XKs have no atmospheric overflow tank to take care of situations such as yours. ''Expansion and contraction of the coolant is accommodated by an air space in the expansion tank and the compliance of the flexible hoses'' - Jag...

With all that in mind, my recommendation would be to get a second opinion!
Depending on where you live, there may be another member who could take a ride with you and maybe compare and contrast your X type with his?

Re: 2.5v6 awd x type Nov 2004 model

In my opinion there is absolutely no truth in such a view!! We've had our X Type from new in 2005 and it's never given a hint of knocking whether accelerating gently or flat out. I would say it's generally as quiet or even quieter than many of today's cars. 2004 was hardly the age of vintage motorin...

Re: Radiator fans running constantly

I don't think you've got any problem! Your system is working in exactly the same way as mine (Not that that proves my point! but it's always been like that) 93 deg C is the correct fan cut-in temperature. Thermostat opens 84/86 deg C and is fully open at 96 deg C. The fans are designed to come on to...

Maybe not a coincidence that A30645 marked the introduction of the first 4.2 litre engine? :D

Re: Rear suspension toe out causing tyre wear

It is true that the adjustable Volvo upper forward arms will fit, albeit I recall a locknut has to be omitted (!). My concern would be using an adjustable upper arm to correct a symptom caused by an incorrect lower arm! I appreciate that cost is an important element in these decisions and Dealer pri...

Re: Xkr 4.0 engine rebuild

SNG Barratt list two different ones for the 4.0 XKR; The part number you have, (for earlier engines) and this one - (from engine: 0008180854) JLM21635.

Giving them a ring may be your best bet.

Re: Rear suspension toe out causing tyre wear

The usual suspect is the lower forward arm. Worn bushes allow the lower part of the suspension to move outwards, causing the camber problem. Toe on the rear suspension is adjustable but it can't compensate for worn bushes. Check the condition of all the bushes of the various rear suspension links as...

Re: Bluetooth module for xkr 2004 with telephone.

It's doable but do you really want to? I have OEM Bluetooth fitted as part of Jaguar's offerings on the run-out 4.2s models. It's OK but like the satnav, a bit dated today. It will accept only one phone for pairing and my relatively modern Samsung Galaxy works with it reliably. Accepting calls is ea...
